In West’s geographic study of Acadians in Louisiana he states “In addition, a member of the St. Charles Bourgeois clan, Jean-Baptiste, and wife Marie Borel, by 1794 was living along the Teche south of St. Martinville; by the 1840’s his descendants had migrated further down the bayou to the vicinity of Charenton and Franklin1935.”

Although we know from her baptismal record that Marie Françoise Borel was baptized in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA1817,1892, several of the baptismal records of her children indicate that she was from St. Charles Parish, LA1952,1953. It is uncertain if she was born in St. Charles Parish, LA and then baptized in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA or whether she actually was born in Orleans Parish, LA. Orleans Parish and St. Charles Parish are very near each other on the Mississippi River.

In her civil marriage record to Jean Baptiste Bourgeois, Marie Françoise Borel is listed as the ‘wid. of Doucet’. No record of her marriage to a Doucet can be found; however, she was married to François Pomet before marrying Jean Baptiste Bourgeois. It seems that the marriage record is in error indicating that she was previously married to a Doucet1954,1955.
