“ Obituary, exact copy from The Pinconning Press, Friday, February 22, 1918
‘ Mrs. Edward LaBean died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. P. McWharter, at the ripe old age of ninety five years. She was the mother of ten children, all of whom survive her. They are David, Frank, Joseph, Peter, and Daniel LaBean, and Mrs. W. Frankhouse, Mrs. Joe Bowen, Mrs. Frank Tatro, and Mrs. Peter McWharter. She is also survived by a brother, Frank, Detroit, who is 92 years of age. Mrs. LaBean was born in France and crossed to Canada in 1819, to Michigan during the Civil War, and has been a resident of Piconning 35 years. Later we learned she had 102 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. The funeral services were held at St. Michael’s Church Tuesday morning. ‘

After many years of research, this is the corrected obituary of Edwidge LaBean
‘ Edwidge LaBean, 87 years, died Sunday, February 17, 1918 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter (Susanne) McQuarter. She had been a resident of the Pinconning Area for 35 years. She was born January 4, 1831 at St. Jacques, Montcalm Co., Quebec to the late Pierre Senever and Marie Angelique Beaudry.
In 1840 the family moved to Monroe County, Michigan where she married Jean Baptiste Labine on November 7, 1848 in St. Mary Church, Monroe. The became the parents of seventeen children, nine survive her: Mrs. Louis (Rosalie) Frankhouse, Francis John “Frank” (Melenisse) “Minnie” LaBean, Mrs. Francis “Frank” (Marie Desanges) Tatro, David (Josephine) LaBean, Joseph (Mary Lea) Labine, Peter (Therese) LaBean, Mrs. Joseph (Josephine) Bowen, Mrs. Peter (Susan) McQuarter, and Daniel (Elizabeth) LaBean. A brother, Francis “Frank” Senever, River Rouge, Michigan who is 80 years old. She was preceded by three husbands, Jean Baptiste Labine, Joseph Martin and Louis Sampson and children, Sophranie, Alphonse Olivier, Jacob, Elisa, Marie Octavie, Mrs. Joseph (Elizabeth) Brancheau, one unnamed and one stillborn child. Also surviving are 102 grandchildren, 88 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren. The funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 19, at St. Michael Church with burial in the church cemetery. ‘

Thomas Nenneau will officiate. Entombment at New Calvary Mausoleum. Mr. LaBean will remain at the Miles Martin Funeral Home where friends may call from 2pm - 8pm Tuesday. Tuesday evening the family and parish will gather at the funeral home for a Scripture service. Following that, the Mt. Morris Holy Family Council and Leon Satkowiak 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus will gather at the funeral home for 3rd and 4th degree memorial services at 6 pm. Wednesday morning Mr. LaBean will be taken to church to lie in state from 12 noon until time of Funeral Mass at 1 pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church or St. Mary’s Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Eugene was born May 12, 1913 in Bay County, Michigan one of sixteen children to Mr. and Mrs. Frances and Melenisse (Cardinal) LaBean. He and Beatrice Stegman were united in marriage October 26, 1940 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pinconning. He was a veteran and served with the U.S. Army Engineer Corps in WWII. Member of Mt. Morris St. Mary Catholic Church since 1948, Charter member of St. Mary’s St. Vincent DePaul Society, an active member and participant for many years with Holy Family Council #4285 K of C and the Leon Satkowiak 4th Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus and the Honor Guard. Retired January 1, 1972 from Buick Motor Division machine repair with 38 years service. He was a retired member of UAW Local #599. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Beatrice and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 15 brothers and sisters.
