There is some confusion in the birth year of Celeste Dartes. Rev. Donald Hebert’s books have conflicting information in which one volume list as Sebastienne Dartes, daughter of Jean Dartes and Pelagie Provost, being baptized on 9 November 1787 at age 3 years and 3 months.15894,1364 This same volume also lists a Jean Pierre Dartes, son of Jean Dartes and Pelagie Provost, being baptized on 9 November 1787 at age 2 months.15897,15534 A different volume of the set lists a Celestine Dartes, daughter of Jean Dartes and Pelagie Provost, being baptized on 9 November 1787 at age 3 months.1363,1364 This second volume does not have an entry for Sebastienne Dartes; however, it does list the baptism of Jean Pierre Dartes, son of Jean Dartes and Pelagie Provost, as being 9 November 1787 at age 2 months.1363,15534 The original baptismal record for both Sebastienne Dartes and Celestine Dartes is Volume 4 #283 of St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, St. Martin Parish, Louisiana. This would indicate that the “two persons” - Sebastienne and Celestin - are actually the same person. Since it would not be possible for a woman to have one child who is two months old and a second child who is three months on the same date, it seems that Celestine Dartes must actually be 3 years and 3 months old at the time of her baptism on 9 November 1787.
