Notes for Joseph-Odon GUIDRY

In 1901 Edouard Guidry worked on his own account (for himself) and employed his son Joseph-Pierre-Edouard Guidry in his shoemaking business. He and Joseph-Pierre-Edouard worked twelve months the previous year. Edouard earned $600 dollars and Joseph-Pierre-Edouard earned $300. The mother tongue (language) of all members of the family was French. The only child in school was Joseph-David-Télesphore who attended eight months the previous year. He could read and write and could speak English and French.16046

In 1911 Edouard Guidry was a widower and self-employed shoemaker. His son Joseph-Pierre-Edouard was a carpenter working for others and worked 50 weeks at 60 hours per week in 1910 earning $600. His daughter Marie-Cécile was a housekeeper. His son Joseph-David-Télesphore was a self-employed grocer. His son Joseph-Omer was a self-employed shoemaker. His son Joseph-Odon was a blacksmith working for others and worked 50 weeks at 60 hours per week in 1910 earning $700. All of the family could read and write in 1910 and commonly spoke English. The 1911 Census of Canada incorrectly listed the place of birth as New Brunswick for all members of the family although all were born in Québec.16048
