Questions/Errors notes for Magdelaine MAYEUX
In the references there appears a discrepancy in the date of death of Magdeleine Mayeux. The original church record of her funeral demonstrates that she was buried on 27 Mar 1758581,739,823. One source, which also cites the Pointe Coupée church records without providing reference to a specific record, indicates that her death occurred on 7 Nov 1758579. The original Pointe Coupée church record is a primary source contemporaneous with the time of her death and, therefore, more likely to be correct.

Notes for Joseph (Spouse 1)
In the Census of Pointe Coupée in 1763, LA Joseph Prevost was quite wealthy - having 11 slaves, 2 mulattos, 1 Indian, 12 cattle and 3 sheep. Later he profited from sale and trade of land and owned what is today Jefferson Island in Iberia Parish, LA775.

Joseph Prevost was a native of St. François Parish in Natchitoches, LA815,753.

Joseph Prevost is listed in the Pointe Coupée Census of 1745 living with his parents Nicolas Prevost dit Collet and Ives Dubos. At the time he is 19 years of age (born 1726). Also, living in the parental home are his brothers Pierre Prevost, 21 years of age, and Antoine Prevost, 3 years of age, and his infant sister Marie Françoise Prevot. The family has two black slaves (one man and one woman) as well as 1 horse, 6 cattle, 4 hogs, 4 muskets, 6 pounds of powder, 10 pounds of lead and balls, 50 corn, 10 beans 3 tobacco and 25 acres of cultivated land754.

On 15 May 1740 in Pointe Coupée, LA Joseph Prevost was the godfather in the baptism of a Negro belonging to Marche, a resident of Natchitoches, LA. The godmother was Genevieve Maieux816. In December 1740 Joseph Prevost was the godfather to Marie, daughter of an Indian and an unknown father. The Indian woman was a slave of Jean Richard La Houssay, commandant. The godmother was Marie Olivat741,817. Joseph Prevost and Genevieve Mayeux were also the godparents of Josephe Mayeux, daughter of François Peirre Mayeux and Nicole Prevost, on 13 Sep 1750 in Pointe Coupée, LA739,818,741. On 12 Nov 1761 in Pointe Coupée, LA he was a witness for the bride in the marriage of Jeanne Laurent and Toussaint Huberdeau741,743,744.

Joseph Prevost sold land to Francisco Bouligny where the city of New Iberia, LA was established in 1779783.

For the marriage of Marie Jeanne Daublin and Joseph Prevost, Marie Jeanne Daublin brought to the marriage 2, 856 livres that were proceeds from her father’s (Valentin Daublin) succession. One-third of this amount went to the community property and the other two-thirds remained clear for the children to be born of the union. Joseph Prevost brought to the marriage a jointure of 500 livres on his future wife and remained in the clear on future children of the union after paying the principal. Joseph Prevost gave his children by his first marriage to Magdeleine Mayeux a share of his property and his new wife Marie Jeanne Daublin agreed to raise and educate the four minor children François, Joseph, Jean Baptiste and Magdeleine819.

An inventory of the estate of Joseph Prevost was made 2 November 1783820,579.

Joseph Prevost was a witness to the civil marriage contract of his sister-in-law Marguerite Mayeux, daughter of Pierre Mayeux and Marie Cellier, and Antoine Patin, widower of Marie Anne Rondot and son of Antoine Patin and Gasparde Monette, on 24 May 1749 in Pointe Coupée Parish, LA745,747.
Questions/Errors notes for Joseph (Spouse 1)
There is confusion in the record as to the date of death of Joseph Prevost. The St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church records has a burial of Joseph Prevost of Illinois, son of Nicolas Prevost, on 20 November 1806 at the age of 80 years. This Joseph Prevost died at the home of Joseph Pierre Nezat of La Pointe on Bayou Teche (present-day Cecilia, LA)757,758. This would mean that Joseph Prevost was born in 1726 which is year the Joseph Prevost, son of Nicolas Prevost and Yves Dubos, was born. This Joseph Prevost, however, was not from Illinois, but from Natchitoches Parish, LA and his father Nicolas Prevost, husband of Yves Dubos, was from Flanders. There was a Nicolas Prevost from Illinois; however, none of his children were named Joseph and none were born as early as 1726. This Nicolas Prevost called Blondin married Marie Françoise Quebodeaux of Kansas in 1745 and all of their known children were born after 1745807. In the St. Martin Parish, LA civil records there is an inventory of the estate of Joseph Prevost dit Collete that occurred on 2 November 1783820,579. It is somewhat uncertain if this inventory of the estate occurred before or after the death of Joseph Prevost dit Collete. There is some indication that Joseph Prevost, who married Magdeleine Mayeux, was still alive in 1789 as he is not listed as deceased in the marriage certificate of his son Joseph Prevost when he married Henriette Borel on 3 November 1789635,634.
