Notes for Mathurin CLOSTIO
Lizzie Clostio Herpin said that François Mathurin Clostio was buried in the Marceaux Cemetery on the road toward Cushing, Vermilion Parish, LA and Forked Island, Vermilion Parish, LA. His grave is a red brick tomb with a cross and is located near the fence in the Marceaux Cemetery. His wife Onezia Broussard had cancer and died. She wished to be buried under an oak tree in her parent’s front yard. So she was buried there. Her grave is located on the road between Milton, Lafayette Parish, LA and Youngsville, Lafayette Parish, LA
3044.

Evidently Maturin Clostio enjoyed drinking alcohol a little too much. He was a very tough man. He ranched for a living and one day a stick poked him in the eye. He went to the doctor and the doctor told him that he would lose the eye and it would be a dollar to remove it. Mathurin told him “No thanks” and then pulled his own eye out. From then on, he wore a patch over this eye.

Questions/Errors notes for Mathurin CLOSTIO
The date of death of Mathurin Clotiaux is given in several sources
3020,3021,3022,13,14 as 17 May 1917; however, the death certificate
3023,3024 of Mathurin Clotiaux provides a date of death of 30 May 1917. Sources citing 17 May 1917 as the date of death appear to originate from the gravestone inscription. I have chosen to use 30 May 1917 as the date of date since is from a contemporary primary source.
